Beautiful and Brutal!! If there is a true defining of a complete musician in our time, it would be one who encompasses the broadest spectrum of style and color. It would be one who won't hold back on their God-given gift. It would be one who is at home with their fans on stage where ever it may be. It would be someone who will not stoop to hiding behind the tweaks and cheats of the current lore who push what I call canned trash to the mainstream. I grew up playing with guys old enough to be my great grandfather! From Big Band to local favorites. " Live is where it defines the complete musician" those old musicians said. "You record it only once! No fixes, no tweaks, no backroom magic!" they said. " Be true to the Audience! You never know when you will have to to do it live! Live is where the complete musician's Magic lives!" they constantly said to me and my brothers who were still in gradeschool. Those are words I still live by today for I too am becoming one of those old guys. Frank's Magic and I go back a long way! As a fresh University grad just out of bootcamp word was there was a killer band with a killer album, three guys, Canadian, cool!
Get that album was the word! Everybody was into this group. I thank God I bought Mahogany Rush by mistake! Not the other. I created a hell of a bunch of converts! His aural vision was with me while I was patching up my guys and the locals during the Beirut civil war. Many times Frank's Magic made it possible to go another day. I cranked his Magic up so loud as not to hear the war around my world that the fighting factions could have taken me out at will with Frank's cassettes blaring out life through a hijacked Carvin set topped by a Russian knockoff of a Marshall Tube. Instead the factions got word that there was this crazy Corpsman who would even help their wounded and dying. MarinoMusic ruled my practice! Suffice it to say everyone involved made sure my generators never gave up the ghost or ran out of fuel! No Music, No Life!! When Kingbee/Backdoor Man came to life everyone knew that Doc Pockets was starting to perform live with Marino's Magic at his side and in the ears of his patients. Frank, I know that you'll find comfort to know that there are many people who came back from the dead listening to your Magic! There were babies born to the WORLD ANTHEM!! I was often asked for copies by the young and old. I know, I was there. Like you, I was but another of God's tools. Imagine a supply clerk demanding justification for cases of cassettes and tape copiers along with my medical supply order! I wrote Morale Enhancement as justification. The DOD probably still has a few requistion forms signed by Col. Frank Marino! Today I can listen to a cd and see you perform as I did in Beirut. You are the truest definition of a complete musician. Live is where you live, Frank! Keep up the Magic! Proud to be a MARINOMEISTER! Hey, don't let Josh jump ship!
