Well, it was one Summer in the 70's. My Cousin David in the
San Franciso Bay Area was home when we went to go visit
my Aunt and Uncle in Pacifica, CA.

I hooked up with David around 11:30AM, went into his room
and asked him. What's Up Cuzzin ?? He showed me his new
Black and White Poster of the Frankster standing in Front Of
The Marino Amp Stack clutching the Gibson SG Guitar. (THIS is
the same picture found on Frank's swirling photo cube on
his My Space.)

I asked David who the Frankster was. David grabbed my arm
real hard and said. "Johnny Boy. That is the NEW JIMI HENDRIX,
and his music is really really hot!!."

Dave then went on to tell me how he saw the Frankster live
in the San Franciso Area this last month at an Outside Bay Area
Concert with a bunch of other bands that, in his opinion really
sucked.!!

Unfortunately Dave had to leave that afternoon to help out our
Uncle finish an inside construction job in downtown San Francisco.

Being an impressionable teen at the time, I listened to a lot of
FM Radio in the Bay Area. One day one of the local DJs from SAN
JOSE KSJO announced a tune from FRANK MARINO AND MAHOGANY
RUSH callled Strange Universe.

Having a limited budget at the time, I used to record and listen
to tapes made from the radio, so I recorded the tune, remembering
what Dear Old David told me about the Frankster.

After hearing the tune, I was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY. Never
heard anything like it before.

After a couple of days and getting the necessary $3.95 plus tax
from working odd jobs, my quest was TOWER RECORDS.

They had only one ALBUM available from the Frankster at the time,
called MAHOGANY RUSH IV. I quickly bought it, raced home and spun
it on my DUAL turntable.

THE OPENING TRACK, callled I'M GOING AWAY, really got me going.

I had to replay it 3 times after hearing it. Even my Mother who hated
Rock but loved Big Band Music was impressed.

WHY?? JIMI HENDRIX amped up to an all time level beyond my
initial expectations!! If that wasn't enough then there was
DRAGONFLY and LITTLE SEXY ANNIE.

Frank: You did it then and you do it now!!! Whether or not you
are the Reborn JIMI, I feel MR HENDRIX would be awestruck if
alive today and had the oppportunity to hear your music.

I really like Pat Traverse, and Robin Trower, but you fill the void
of HENDRIX for me in a way they cannot. Your music has a
haunting quality to it. It is ABSOLUTLEY AWESOME. You JAM
Brother, and if you get to Cincinnati OH, I would like to see you.

My WARLOCK guitar likes your music also....As an avid guitar
player myself, I admire your grit, tenacity and best of all your
sound which still to this day ROCKS THE WORLD!!

Thank you and KEEP ON A ROCKIN !!!

Frank, I had the honor of seeing you at the Texxas Jam in 1978. I've seen you once since then. I look forward to you and your bands performance at Batfest here in Austin. Be sure to play "He's Calling". Thanks for the rock and the good times! Best wishes to you and the band!

to this day and age no one and I mean no one can hold a candle or torch to mahogany rush music or live performances cause you get 3 different levels of music at his shows grinding metal heavy metal and blues all in one.

I am looking forward to hearing M.Rush at Batfest. The first time I heard M.Rush, I was walking through the mall in Alexandria, Louisiana, and Strange Universe had just been released. The record store was playing Guit Wars full blast and it was carrying throughout the mall. I have been a M. Rush fan ever since. I was lucky enough to see and hear M.Rush at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas. I wish I could remember it better, but it was a long time ago. Rock-n-roll!!!

Certainly the 4th Album Ranks as One Of Frank's Very Best..
I remember my Cousin David, who lived in the San Francisco Bay Area
Back in the 70's, first introducing me to Frank Marino.
He had the Black and White Poster hanging in his Bedroom of Frank, Standing By Himself, in front of his Amp Stack, holding firmly his Gibson SG Guitar. (This is the same one on Frank's My Space found on the Spinning Cube).

When I asked David who this guy was, David looked me in the eye,
grabbed my arm saying, "Son that is Frank Marino. He is the New
Jimi Hendrix, and his music is really really hot!!" David saw Frank
play in San Franciso At An Outside Show earlier that year. The conversation
then ended as David had to go to work that day, helping
his Dad, My Uncle, with a Construction Job on Yes, a Saturday Afternoon.

The First Song I ever heard from Frank was Strange Universe, played
on a local San Francisco station. After hearing it I decided I "MUST HAVE"
an Album by this Guy. A week later, I walked into Tower Records and
Found One Copy left of the 4th Album (the ONLY album in the store at the time), bought it, rushed home and spun it on my Dual Turntable. After hearing the Opening Track, "Iim Going Away, " I Became Completely Awestruck!! WOW, This Dude was like Hendrix Revisited, But Much Better, More Refined and Talking The HENDRIX EXPERIENCE TO AN ALL TIME NEW LEVEL!! Needless to say, I replayed the opening track 3 times that day.. David was Right!!! My Mom even thought it was cool and she did
not really like Rock Music, growing up in the ERA of th Big Bands.

Whether you believe Frank Marino is HENDRIX Reincarnated, or Not,
you have to admit he is absolutely amazing. If the first track on #4
doesn't do it, then DRAGONFLY or LITTLE SEXY ANNIE, will surely
convince even the most avid HENDRIX Fan!! That last track called
IV THE EMPEROR is also really awesome. Sounds to me like
JIMI is in there too!!

Frank Marino fills the gap left open for me by Pat Travers and Robin Trower,
who I both admire greatly..Frank has a sound to his guitar and voice
that is haunting even to this day. If JIMI HENDRIX was alive today, I
am absolutely certain he would be as blown away by Frank Marino and
Mahogany Rush as I have been over the years. Pat Travers and Robin
have Great Voices and Guitars, BUT their sound is different. Frank's
Music is JIMI truly reborn and carried to a level out of this world.

After reading about Frank's Acid Experiences, I am convinced that the
Spirit of the JIMI is in him. Keep playing Frank, your music still has it!!!
The Beauty of it is that Frank still tours!! I bet his band stills sounds
really really hot!!!

I became a fan in about 1976 or 77 when I saw you and the band at the Aragon ballroom on Chicago's North Side. A friend told me I had to see and hear you the show. It's still one of the best performances I'll ever experience. You only did about 4 tracks to warm up the place for John Kade and Steppenwolf during their comeback. Your last track was done under strobe lights. Combination of your playing and the lights were mind blowing! I must have seen you there about 3 additional times afterwards.
Everytime was awesome!

I'm about to start collecting all of your ablums. Frank, may you and yours continue to be blessed with good health and prosperity. Keep on doing your thing!

I saw you in 78 or 79, in Louisville KY., and to this day it was the best concert I ever saw! When you finished with Purple Haze, the crowd went nuts! If anyone asks me about my favorite concert, I tell them to listen to the live 78 album, and they say holy s**t! I'm going to turn 50 next year, and I would love to see you play again.

To the most underrated guitar player in history. Of course, those that know, KNOW. You are in incredible talent. You should be in the Rock-n-Roll Hall Of Fame big time.
Anyway, I can't believe I missed you last time you were in Austin. but this time I'll be there. Remember when you played Austin Nights back in the 80's? I know you hate these type of comments.
If you need any info on Austin sites, restaurants, etc...I'm a native.

Thank you for the Arizona show you did 8-25-08 at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix. What an amazing and truly inspiring show you and your band performed. I have not seen you perform since 1979 and this truly was an incredible experience. I attended the show with a friend of mine who has never seen or heard your music and he was messmerized by your guitar abilities and songs, your absolute stamina playing 3+ hours without any break in the show. You are the genuine ambassador to true artistic expression and shared experience. Please continue to include Arizona in your future tours as I cannot afford to travel outside the state to see your performance. I also would like to thank you for signing my cd's, a very kind thank you to your wife for bringing them to you in the bus after the show due to the rainstorm we had that evening. God Bless you and your family & the guys in the band.
