Here's a memory!
The 2nd and (hopefully not the last) time I got to see Frank live was the Omni Bar in Oakland, Cali on July 12, 1986. His backup band was MR.BIG !!!!!
Can you believe maestros such as Paul Gilbert-Billy Sheehan and Pat Torpey-Eric Carmen backing up a lowly Canuck noodler? I was with a couple Americans, newbies to the Canuck hard rock genre.
That's one thing I always respected out of fellow Americans music enthusiasts, they always gave credit to obvious talent and Frank drips it in ATMOSPHERIC STORMS..........Blown away is what they said!!!!!
They were fans of Mr. Big/Eric Carmen, but FM left them in the dust. And it was my only time catching Frank with his brother Vince, so special!

Here's an interview of Frank this year!!!!
www.coasttocoastam.com/show/2024-01-19-show/ (you have to give up info for this, so I usually DON'T), maybe Frank will allow us to hear this through his site????????

Wow, I just connected with a ytube vid (1979 DAY ON THE GREEN FESTIVAL (AC/DC, Frank Marino, Aerosmith and Ted Nugent), at Oakland's Day On The Green Fest and the comments just made me proud that we supplied a master to the music scene of the day. The absolute LOVE for this man 50 years later, and what it meant to fans, is indisputable and should be a basis for his induction into the RNR Hall Of Fame, a long-time snub by "the RACKET".
Anyway, we ALL KNOW WHO'S THE BADDEST Canuck noodler out there, forever!!!!
Also that vid has St. Paradise at the start, a super band that had such great players as Derek St. Holmes and Rob Grange (Nugent), to go with former drummer Denny Carmassi of Ronnie Montrose and his bands.....
Also check out Frank's fret work on So Bad - The Whole World's Goin' Crazy (1976) album by April Wine, and his work with Billly and Nanette Workman (her album I cannot find anymore), that intersects with my other Canuck Guitar God, Walter Rossi (Charlee, Pagliaro-Second Helping). Those Montreal area stidios really had it going on then.
But back to FM. This is a must!!!!; Secondhand Smoke: A Tribute to Frank Marino (tracks by George Lynch, Ronnie Montrose, James Byrd, Randy Hansen, Audley Freed, Jennifer Batten, Karl Cochran, Jeff Cloud, Rick Ray and John Norum) (2005)

Greetings Frank. Hope you are doing well. Have been a fan since the early 70's and have seen you and MR several times. I purchased Live at the Agora and wanted to say "Thanks." I also wanted to bring up a subject. One of the times I saw you was in 1977 (I believe) at the Fox Theater in Atlanta Ga. This was prior to the Live 78 LP. I know you mentioned that the Live 78 was mostly recorded in Florida and Texas but I am pretty sure 1 song on the Live 78 was recorded at the Fox in Atlanta. Maybe I am wrong but I remember the moment in the song that I hear on the LP and do not believe that came from any other venue. While I think all your albums are great Live 78 is the one I'd choose since I can only pick 1 and the fact that I really do believe 1 song was recorded at the Fox and I was there. Best wishes and thanks for the music. smile

The first song in my band's gig is "The World Anthem".
This is the best of your songs.
It's majestic and always brings tears to my eyes anytime I hear it.

I saw you in Houston, Texas way back in the 70's. Land of 1000 nights blew my mind. I never saw Jimi Hendrix, but you were the next best thing, one who took his place. Man, you and your band rocked that hall. Wish I'd have got to see you again. My loss! Thanks for the memories! All the best to you.cool

Greetings Frank, I have whined so many times about you coming out to BC over the years, but mentioned in prior comments that I did get to catch you at Calgary's Speedway in 1979 and in Oakland Ca in 1986, both superb concerts!
I have a question, you played on Billy Workman's solo album, I think I know which song (s), She's Gonna Stay and I think solo on Independent Grave Man? I couldn't find any info on it.
How was it in the studio because that album was packed with excellent Canuck talent I was a fan of; Walter Rossi (Buddy Myles,The Rockers, Charlee-Solo, Bombers w/Marty Simon), Jack August (Moonquake with Hovaness Hagopian and Derek Kendrick, saw them live!), Michel Pagliaro (Second Helping (We're Dancing Til It's Blows Over)+Solo, his sister Nanette, and most everyone else on that album.
Did you get to spend some time with these people and how was it? Did you do some jamming?
You should write a memoir of the friends you made in those early studio sessions where the best music in Canada came out of in the late 60s-70s. I believe it would be very interesting for your fans of you and your musician friends.

I WAS THERE...7 rows of audio equipment? Ur gonna tell me ur NOT RECORDING ??? I even know the special whistles I did when I was there so...had to get that off my chest...I KNOW GOODER!!! I still have the ticket stubs! Thanx for the many, many memories! and I've NEVER seen anybody even TWICE...even seen Trower...Front Row! I'd go again! 1977 $10 scalp for $7.50 ticket! Straight up my favorite guitarist. First time I saw you in concert was Day on the Green (Oakland 1979) and all the bands were great. You and your Band stood out the most and blew the other bands away. I had never heard of Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush until that day and now I can say I have bought and continue to listen to all of your albums that I can get my hands on. Your work has been awesome and your tone is unforgettable , Instantly recognizable. I just ordered the trio of pedals you are building and I can't wait to plug into them. I am just a closet player and guitar dreamer chasing the perfect tone to fulfill my ears. Pretty sure your pedals will get me closer. Thank you for all the great music and your humble spirit. My prayers are coming your way for better health.

Bonjour Frank!
I have been listening to your music for many many years (we are the same age!) And I can say with complete conviction that you are the finest guitar player this planet has ever known - I am dead serious when I say this. I have seen in my lifetime over 130 major concerts including the likes of Hendrix, Joplin, Led Zeppelin etc. I grew up hanging out with musicians watching them play in basements then concert halls (I never really played an instrument except for a little drumming) so I have been exposed for for most of my life to music. You are a treasure to Canada and the world, if you ever come back from your aching shoulders and without taking too much time from your lovely family, find a little time to perform at a Canadian venue, I will be the first in line to buy tickets. BTW, I think I know a guy that you have jammed with in the past - Roc Malin who based his guitar playing on your style. God love ya!

BTW#2: This Agora video is absolutely stupendous and has become my most treasured video of all time

Greetings Frank Marino. The live at Agora DVD set is mesmerizing to say the least. My wife and I watched it twice already and we just got it 4 days ago. Anyway I have a great memory of seeing Mahogany Rush at the Aragon, Chicago in October of '74. Aerosmith came on after you. I was 20 at the time. What a night that was! Thanks for all that great music. We (your fans) appreciate it.
