THE MAN IS A PHENOMENON, HIS PLAYING IS EXTRAORDINARY AND I LOVE TO CRANK HIS MUSIC WAY UP SO I CAN GET A FLASHBACK FEELING OF DAY ON THE GREEN AT THE OAKLAND COLISEUM WHEN HE BASICALLY BLEW DOORS ON MOST OF THE COMPETITION(ST PARADISE,AC/DC,AEROSMITH AND TED NUGENT)IN 1979. THE OTHER SHOW I SAW WAS AT THE KABUKI IN SAN FRANCISCO ON THE JUGGERNAUT TOUR, MAN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN WEARING DEPENDS BECAUSE I PRACTICALLY TOOK A SHIT WHEN HE PLAYED MAYBE IT'S TIME OFF THE POWER OF ROCK N ROLL. THE SHOW AFTER THAT WAS HIS 1992 GIG AT SLIMS IN S.F.(FROM THE HIP TOUR?) I WAS IN THE FRONT ROW AND WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY. FRANK FOREVER!!!

From:DEAR FRANK, IN MY OPINION, AND IM SURE, THERES MANY OTHERS, THAT THINK YOUR THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER THAT EVER LIVED ! BUT IN MY HEART, I FEEL THAT I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST, AND PROBABLY YOUR OLDEST FAN. ALL IT TOOK WAS A 5 SECOND CLIP OF "MAKIN' MY WAVE" IN THE RADIO AD FOR THE RELEASE OF "CHILD OF THE NOVELTY". AT THE RECORD STORE I FOUND "MAXOOM " . THAT WAS NEARLY 27 YEARS AGO... I TURNED ON ANY ROCK LOVER I COULD TO YOUR MUSIC, ALWAYS PLAYED IT LOUD. I HAD EVERY RECORD. THE STRANGE THING WAS, THE RADIO PLAY. MY LOCAL ROCK STATION, (102.3 WBAB, BABYLON L.I. N.Y.) ONLY PLAYED YOUR STUFF WHEN I REQUESTED IT. BY THE WAY, THATS THE STATION THAT PLAYED THE AD ! THEY WERE SMALL BACK THEN, WORKED OUT OF A SHACK . I WOULD CALL SO MUCH , THEY STARTED CALLING ME "MR. MAHOGANY". D.J. RALPH TORTORE WHO'S STILL WITH WBAB GAVE ME THE NAME. THERE WERE TIMES I'D CALL TO REQUEST A TRACK OFF A NEW RELEASE, THEY DIDIN'T HAVE A COPY. I WOULD GO TO THE STATION WITH MINE, AND THEY PLAYED MY FAVORITE TRACK, AND EVEN LET ME INTRODUCE IT LIVE ON THE RADIO ! WHAT A RUSH ! TO THIS DAY I STILL CALL FOR MY DOSE OF MARINO, ANY SONG. THEY PLAYED "THE ANSWER" LIVE. I HAD A DENIM JACKET THAT I DREW ALL THE ALBUM COVERS ON THE BACK. FROM "MAXOOM" TO "JUGGERNAUT". EVERY CONCERT I DREAMED OF MEETING YOU IN PERSON, THE MAN HIMSELF, THE ULTIMATE GUITAR WARRIOR ! THEN ONE NIGHT IT HAPPEND, MY DREAM COME TRUE ! I SHAKE THE HAND OF FRANK MARINO ! YEA, FOR ME THAT WAS A BIG DEAL BACK THEN ! MAN ! THE PROOF WAS ON MY JACKET, YOUR'S AND PAUL HARWOOD'S BASS GUITAR SHAPED SIGNATURE ! IF I CAN RECALL, I THINK IT WAS AT THE PALADIUM IN N.Y.C. SOME MONSTER METAL CONCERT. I REMEMBER MOTOR HEAD WAS ALSO IN THE HOUSE. I TOOK A CHANCE WAITING OUTSIDE THE BACK DOOR, WAS IT THE RIGHT DOOR ? YES ! THE SHOW THAT REALLY BLEW ME AWAY WAS AT THE GARDEN (M.S.G.) N.Y.C. WITH KANSAS. THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW I EVER SAW IN MY LIFE ! BY ANYONE ! IF KANSAS DIDIN'T PLAY, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE BY ME. YOU KICKED SOME N.Y. ASS THAT NIGHT ! YES, I AM A DREAMER, AND THIS DREAM, WELL, THIS ONE WOULD NEVER COME TRUE. I CANT BE THAT LUCKY . I KEPT THE DREAM ALIVE, NO MATTER WHAT THE ODDS OF THIS DREAM BECOMING THE GREATEST DAY OF MY LIFE ! FOR YEARS I'VE BEEN ROCK'IN IN BANDS OF MY OWN. NO, AS MUCH AS I LOVE THE GUITAR, I DONT PLAY ONE. I'VE BEEN A LEAD SINGER. SURE I DREAM OF BEING A BIG ROCK STAR, DOESNT EVERY-ONE ? WELL, I GOT PRITTY DAM CLOSE ! ONE NIGHT I WAS A BIG ROCK STAR. THATS HOW I FELT ANYWAY. THAT WAS THE NIGHT OF NIGHTS FOR ME . THIS WAS THE NIGHT THAT MY BAND "CANNON", THE BAND THAT I WAS IN , WOULD BE THE SPECIAL GUESTS, OPENING THE SHOW FOR..... FRANK MARINO and MAHOGANY RUSH LIVE! at SUNDANCE - BAY SHORE, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK NOT MANY PEOPLE EVER GET TO KNOW WHAT THAT FEELS LIKE ! THAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE ! TO GROW UP LISTENING TO YOUR FAVORITE BAND, GETTING TICKETS TO THEIR CONCERTS, BUY'IN THEIR RECORDS, READING THE REVIEWS, GETTING THEIR AUTOGRAPH, ETC.ETC. WOW ! I DIED AND WENT TO HEAVEN ! ITS THINGS LIKE THIS THAT MAKE YOU GLAD TO BE ALIVE!!! WELL FRANK, I NEVER MEANT TO WRITE YOU A SHORT STORY BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW YOU AND YOUR MUSIC REALLY EFFECTS PEOPLE. I JUST GOT ON LINE AND I CAME UPON YOUR WEB SITE. I GOT THE ADDRESS FROM FINGERS AND GAIL FLUGE OF , WELL GUESS WHERE ? FINGERS METAL SHOP 102.3 WBAB ! LOOKS LIKE WEVE COME FULL CIRCLE. IM GETTING "EYE OF THE STORM". CANT WAIT, FEELS LIKE OLD TIMES ! IM STILL KICKIN THE ROCK N ROLL IN A BAND CALLED COOL STUFF IN MY LOCAL AREA. STILL HAVIN FUN ! ITS A FUNNY THING, NEVER GETTING TO OLD TO ROCK. YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY MADE ME WRITE ALL THIS ? YOUR 24-7 RADIO STATION ! IM IN A TIME MACHINE ! THIS IS GREAT ! OH MAN, DO I FEEL GOOD ! AFTER ALL THIS TIME, IM GLAD I'VE HAD THIS CHANCE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR A LIFE TIME OF REALLY GREAT ROCK N ROLL ! HOPE WE MEET AGAIN SOMETIME..... I CAN DREAM, CANT I ? VINNY "THE VIN MAN " STAGNITTA

In 1980, Stationed at Anderson AFB, Guam, I was up playing cards with some friends one night, and listening to the most incredable music I had ever heard in my entire life!!! I asked the guy, who's room we were in, What was I listening to? He said MAHOGANY RUSH. I was blown away by the whole thing...(I am a musician, bassist) not just the guitar playing, but everything, the vocals, drums bass, and most of all, the song writing!!! I asked "Why have I never heard of this guy before"? He...a real southern RED NECK type of dude...replied, "Because youall up north are all to buisy listening to shit like The Cars". I could not argue... For the rest of the night, I folded my hand at cards, and just listened to this amazing music. I spent hours and days learning the bass lines to almost everything off of the LIVE ALBUM and TALES of the UNEXPECTED. When I came home from Guam, I turned my friends on to this music, and everyone had the same reaction as I did. I covered a lot of Mahogany Rush Music in club bands. Because I knew that no one would recognize the tune, I would always introduce it first before playing it. "Check this next one out, Band's called Mahogany Rush, song called Woman". This music has been more important to me than that of ANY other artist, alive or dead,PERIOD. It's been over twenty years of playing in local bands, a few close calls with real success, and to this day, I still have to list Frank Marino (a guitarist) as the single greatist influence to my own playing, (a bassist). There is an energy in this mans music, and I mean the song writing, and vocals, as well as the unequaled guitarmenship, that I try to bring with me to every gig. It has shaped my preformance into what it is today. Unfortunatly, to this day, I have never actualy seen him play. When he's been in town to play, I've been playing out of town. Then he dissapeared. I thought I heard his guitar work on a song by Sound Garden, (of all bands) I don't know the name of the song. I just got a computer, and the first thing I went searching for was Mahogany Rush Information. Man was I psyched when I found not only a website, CD's, Tour dates, Lyrics, and more, but evan a "Chat Line" with a bunch of Mahogany Rush Lunatics (like myself) and Frank Himself!!! One more little thing...call it coincidence...maybe...I just learned of the latest CD, titled "Eye of the Storm". The last band I recorded a CD with, was a band named "HURRICANE". A "chick rock" type of thing, like a Natelie Merchant, Alanis Morrisette, etc... It was quite good, I'm kind of proud of it. That was seven years ago. The name of the CD was "Calm at the Eye of the Storm". Go figure?

I'm really enjoying "Eye of the Storm" - it is great to hear the new material! I have to thank Willy for letting us long- time fans know how to obtain a copy! Thanks for the spiritual insights which you have brought into my life.I am looking forward to hearing you in concert again,as it has been too many years since the last one I was fortunate enough to attend. You are truly my favorite guitarist,as your music transcends the boundaries of space and time & takes me to places where no other musicians ever could. Thanks,Frank!

I am 45 years old and would like to know where the hell I was in the seventies when this music was being made and readily available? I must confess that I remember hearing of Mahogany Rush, and even though I knew they were different bands, I think i must have unconsciously associated this band with Rush, whom I loathe. I spent a lot of time trying to find great guitar bands back then, and I sort of settled on John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. I only know that if I would have heard of this music back then I would have been in heaven! As it is, I have spent a great deal of time and energy over the last several months and have managed to obtain Frank's catalog, except for the more obscure compilations. I enjoy all of the albums immensely. Strangely enough, Frank's abilities came to my attention from the Stevie Ray Vaughan and Fit for a King compilations from Shrapnel, a label that I have purchased from frequently in search of great guitar music. I also own the two Bryan Lee Live at the Absinthe House cds and felt that Frank absolutely blew away the other artists he shared the stage with so I started looking into his music - 25 years late but nonetheless glad I discovered it at all. I also enjoy many other "shredders" like Satriani, Johnson, Vai, et al, but much of this music possesses sameness that becomes tedious or is self-indulgent. Frank just does straight ahead rock and roll and/or blues and it kicks! My seventeen year old son plays guitar and his best friend, who eats and breathes guitar, are BIG Metallica fans and they, of course, think Kirk Hammett is a deity. So I just played some "Frank music" for them, watched their jaws drop, and said "Kirk Who?" It was nice... Anyway, I would love to see Frank in concert and bring my son and some of his friends. Is he going to be playing anywhere around the Phila./NY City area anytime in the future? I also have the new cd and think it's great! Keep on rockin' Frank! This kind of great music never goes out of style! (still would like to know how I missed this music back then)

I first joined the army of Frank Marino (and The Mahogony Rush) fans in 1981. I heard the killer album, "Juggernaut" - and was sold immedially. I play guitar myself - but after I'd hear Frank, I had myself a new guitargod! Eddie Van Halen is great, Joe Satriani is OK, Brian May is average but Frank Marino is AWESOME. OK, my next album was "What's next" and I was sold! These guys play so tight and with such an energy that I just don't believe it :o) I wish they would visít Denmark someday- or Sweden (it's close enough for me *S*) - I think I deserve to see Frank live in action *SS* But back to the records. I got almost everything Frank have made now, and I consider those records to be the most precious stuff I own. Great record you've made, Frank! Keep on rockin' - you're the best. Yours faithfully Frank Guldberg Lassen - a devoted fan :o))

Hi Frank, long time ago since I've heard from you and Mahogany Rush. You was the guy that gives me the influences to keep playing guitar and rock earthly with two feets on the ground. The only newcomers since the seventies that inspired me as well as you are "Dream Theater" because this band blows you across the halls and makes you feel high without chemical junk. You did this to me also with your guitar. It would be nice to meet you and your band again in the aera here in germany and have a party. God bless you and the band.

When i first heard about Frank Marino in the late 70s i was completely in for his music and started buying the records i could lay my hands on.Ever since then i became together with some friends very big fans of this great rock n roll player. We saw him playing live at the Amsterdam Paradiso in 1983(I think it was may)for nearly 3 hours and that is up to now the best live gig i have ever seen. I am sorry to have found out that no records or C.Ds are availlable in both the U.K. and the European continent(or at least hardly any,so after years of searching and of course buying I have got a small collection now. Mayby FRank will decide to throw a European tour in the near future. I am looking forward to that day.

Dear Franksters, I am writing to admit that I had not been a major FM&MR fan until I found this wildwillys site. I have been playing guitar since age 12. I have been told my playing style is a cross between Rick Emmett and Jimmy Page, but I have been listening to the live broadcast a lot and... I sound like Frank!! Holy smokes! I mean, I am a ways from the prowess that is Frank but his chops are suprisingly familiar. All I do now is some home studio stuff, but Frank's music is really missed by us guys that love solid ROCk a'la '78. Frank, if youre listenin', keep goin at it and dont change at all (as if you should??) You still got the guts, the chops, and the drive that is what great R&R is all about .(despite the sh**ty bands that get airplay today). Over and Out D.A. Kuntze (P.S. excellent site wildwilly)

When I was 15 I lived in San Antonio and Frank toured opening for Nazareth.(what a joke, those guys weren't even good enough to lug his gear!) This was in 1979. Anyhow Frank did a promotional appearance at a record store called the Record Hole that was in the mall and was signing autographs. I (the dumbass) didn't take my Frank Marino 8-tracks for him to sign but I went anyway to meet him and to shake his hand. The girl in line right in front of me had a big paper bag in her hand and when she got up to him she told him that "It was her birthday and would he be so kind as to sign the big double chamber bong her friends had gotten her as a gift". He smiled and laughed and signed it right on the sticker on the bottom! Being next in line I said to him that "If he'd sign that, then maybe he'd also sign this". At which point I whipped out the big ol' joint that I had behind my ear. He signed my joint and we smoked it at the show! I forgot to mention that I had 6th row seats right in the middle! I'm 36 now and I still have my ticket stub! I wish that I still had my autographed joint! Needless to say, Frank kicked ass all over the stage that night and I don't believe I've ever been more impressed or influenced by any one guitar player as I was that night. I booed Nazareth all the rest of the night. Not just because Frank completely blew them off the stage, but because also their singer was so drunk he could barely stand up. They sucked and Frank should always be the main act.

Saw Frank Marino on the University circuit in Montreal in the early 70s. Bought the first album and brought it down to Fort Lauderale where I turned everybody on to it. See you at Barrymores in Ottawa.
