I have seen and of course heard many of the most legendary guitar players in history. I consider Frank Marino to be one of them without any doubt. Some said he was a Hendrix clone, yet Frank is way beyond Jimi Hendrix (who is one of my favorites) in technical skill. Frank could shred circles around JH. Of course JH had the killer tone, the character and legendary style that made him a legend, but Frank has that as well as the vision and creativity to go musically beyond, way beyond in amazingly creative, imaginative and complex ways. All while doing it with a great voice and virtuoso guitar performance. My favorite song by him is "Ain't Dead Yet" which embodies the power and spirit of Frank Marino. However I also greatly enjoy many of his more abstract, spacey songs that really pushed the boundaries of rock into areas that rock had never gone before. I think greater success was lacking due to the technically complex and high level of sophistication of Franks music. Where Hendrix was more raw, Frank is more refined, technical, sophisticated and plays with a fiery motivation. This is not really a comparison, only an observation. Both are legends written in rock history forever. I play guitar, and like many others who play, we are influenced by musicians like Frank Marino as well as all of the guitar legends. Ain't it great to have so many fantastic musicians to draw inspiration from?
