It was the late 70's, I came home early from a party, a late night show was on showing Cal Jam clips. I was watching a three piece band that I had never seen or heard. I remember thinking, this guy is phenomenal. Who is he? Well, of course it was Frank. I made it my mission to find out every thing I could about him. The first album I bought was the live one, and I've bought every one ever since. I wish someone would re-release the entire collection. As a side note, Frank opened for Nugent when they came to Portland (Oregon is where I grew up) and blew him away. We used to joke after the concert that his name should be Ted NoJam, because after Frank left the stage Nugent's music could have been described many ways but jammin wasn't one of them. I saw him again in 1986. He played a small club in Portland. He was incredible. The guy always gave 110%. After the show a few of us were hanging out, talkin' about grabbin' some brew and doin' whatever, and the roadies asked us if we could give them a hand. I guess they had been on the road for awhile and were hurtin'. We kinda laughed but we helped out anyway. As I was holding two of Frank's SG's I thought, these guys are awful trusting. After we got done we were leaving and the guys asked us if we wanted to meet Frank. We told them it was cool, and he was probably tired anyway. They stopped us and said, no he loves to talk to fans and that they wanted to pay us back for helping. Frank was great. He posed for pictures, answered questions he'd probably heard a hundred times, signed autographs, and was just totally cool. The roadies and Frank were good people. They had to get on the road so they couldn't party with us (what a story that would've been). I never got to tell him what a wonderful gift his music has been. It is because of his influence that I started to listen to blues, jazz, and other progressive music. I have never grown tired of his music. It is just as incredible to me today as when I first heard it. The reason I listed What's Next as my fav is because that's the album I listened to most of my senior year in H.S. I would love to see Frank live again. Please post any future shows. It would be worth the drive to the Great White North. Besides the Molson is better north of the border. Thanks Wild Willy. It's a great site. Thanks Frank, for all the memories and the music yet to come.

With 3 shows under my belt, I've been a fan since 1979. I've seen him in 3 decades in 3 cities/states!1979 New Haven,CT1988 New York, NY1992 Chicago, ILI wish he would tour in the states (East Coast) more frequently and I still enjoy all his killer tunes. I was cranking "Tales..." in my car today on the way home from work, stuck in slow moving traffic. I even went to H.S. with his cousin. I am a fan of guitar players such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ted Nugent, Alvin Lee and Tony Iommi. I love "World Anthem," both the song and album, with "Dragonfly" as my alltime fave song. Peace, Willie

I'm totally amazed by his skill at fast picking and varied fretwork. Like Hendrix, each song has it's own set of licks that cover a wide range of scales and runs and when listened to today, against the other greats (Yngvie, etc.), it sounds even MORE AMAZING!! This is the style I have always naturally been attracted to as a guitarist myself and I always credit Frank as one of my influences. Entertaining with a guitar is a challenging thing since most people have heard alot before but if you play with intensity, soul and TASTE, like Frank does, (like I try to do), people really truly appreciate it. Another local Seattle area phenomenon is Randy Hansen (well known as a Hendrix impersonator) who is about the only one I have ever seen who can match Frank's ability to entertain with a guitar. I first saw Mahogany Rush open for Blue Oyster Cult (headlining) and, of all people, Bob Seger in 1976. After about 30 minutes it was over and every one was dissapointed that Seger was going to play next! Oh, well. The two following years MR headlined the Paramount Theater in Seattle and it was totally unbelievable even though He was right in front of my eyes! AWESOME!!! THANK YOU FRANK - WHEREVER YOU ARE and thank you WildWilly whoever you are!

This could be the it. He was too sophisticated for his time. We're stuck with Rap now. Frank's new album (sorry ..CD)could finally be the breakout not just for his loyal fans but for the whole freakin' young scene looking for the new sound. Just a thought but Frank is that talented at writing music. Can't wait for your new CD!

I have no idea who Frank Marino is. I also don't have a fav album but it made me pick one so I chose one with my name in it. I was just wondering who Frank Marino was and what was up with the Mahogany Rush thing cause that it my name. No it's not a joke...it's actually on my birth certificate. So if anyone sees this and can answer my questions send me an e-mail or something.

I was driving around downtown Phoenix in late 1980 and listening to KDKB when they spun "Johnny B. Goode" from the M.R. Live album and I knew I had to own the record. My fave off that album is "A New Rock & Roll" which is one of the few songs I ever tried to learn note for note on the guitar (I had it pretty close too until an accident in 1986 forced me to relearn guitar lefthanded). I played the album for my buddies in a band who were pretty high on Eddie Van at the time, and they had to admit Frank gave Ed a run for the money. I caught two Mahogany Rush shows while I lived in Phoenix and then four more after moved back to SF: at the Kabuki, the Oasis, the I-Beam and Slim's. I've been waiting for Frank to return ever since. My all-time favorite is "Poppy" of which the version on "Double Live" is pretty good, but there's no substitute for the man live. While Frank is not my only guitar hero (Steve Vai, Eddie VH and Yngwie Malmsteen being right up there, especially Steve) Frank was my first and perhaps favorite guitar hero, and I can't wait to see him perform live again! In the mid-to-late seventies I entered junior high school, and was finally allowed to begin attending rock concerts with my friends. Aerosmith was a big favorite of mine, and they came to town supporting the Draw The Line album. Opening the show that evening was a band unknown to me at that time by the name of Mahogany Rush. I have to admit that I wasn't too excited about hearing anyone else other than Aerosmith, but when the Lights went down, (The tone of that Fuckin SG!) and I heard the opening eruption of THE ANSWER I was instantly captivated. I come from an extensive rock music background and have played the guitar myself for many years, so I had heard all the greats. But the fire breathing dragon that stormed the stage that evening in Seattle blew my mind. The ferocity and technical clarity of Mr. Marino's playing, still to this day remains One of the most exilerating moments I have ever had at any musical event. All I have left to say is If anyone wants to learn to play rock guitar, the way it's intended, needs to copy note for note, the first Mahogany Rush live Album. It has been, and remains the ball breakin Hemi Engine of rock guitar albums. Thanks Frank (Keep on crankin!)P.S Please come to Seattle and show some of these local weenies how to burn!

I "discovered" Frank in '77 when I bought the "Live" album before I saw them open up for Styx. Needless to say, I was amazed and have been a fan ever since. I have seen Frank play live 7 or 8 times and have yet to see him have a "bad night". He always plays with frightening precision and great emotion. I have been a Frank Marino fan for 21 years and his music is just as important to me today as it was in my adolescent years. I think that speaks volumes for how well created his music is. I'd like to give my compliments to WildWilly on such an awesome page. A friend sent me the link to your page and I am thrilled that he did. Maybe with enough prodding, we can get Frank to go back out on the road and start recording again. This is an excellent page and you should be very proud of the content you have assembled. I'm sure Frank is proud of it too. Keep up the Great Work!

I've been a Frank Marino fan ever since I played the LIVE album for the 1st time. I have turned many people on to your great music over the years and will continue to do so. My 1st show was in 79' in Philly. You were opening for Kansas. I actually met you before the show at the old late great Peaches Record Store. You were giving away a white Fender Strat. I caught you many times on the Juggernaut tours in Baltimore and D.C. Fane Acoustics were sounding awesome!!! The WAX is still melting!!! It is great to know you are releasing new material and will be touring. My favorite tunes to be played live: In My Ways;Try for Freedom; and Tales of the Spanish Warrior. Now THAT would be the best!!! God Bless Frank Marino.
