Greetings! I was turned on to Mahogany Rush by a guitar player friend of mine many years ago. I am currently 45 years old and have been a musician for at least half of that time. Frank Marino totally blew me away when I first heard Child of the Novelty! The unearthly playing and tones that he achieved on that album burned into my brain cells! Although I don't play anything like Frank, he has definately influenced my playing! I just ordered Child of the Novelty, and will continue to buy all I can find by Mahogany Rush! God bless Frank, one of the greatest players of all time!

I saw Frank play the Metropolis club here in Montreal a few years ago. He played all the songs on the double live album. I saw Frank really enjoying himself especially when he played Poppy. Any guitarists out there know the chord forms of Frank's version of "She's not there"? He appeared to be using octaves and triads. He played the melody to the song using small chords allover the neck. Awesome beautiful sound. The rythm is Gm to C repeatedly I think. I'd really like to know the few chord shapes he used in that song. P.S. I been a fan of Frank's since the early 70's. Inspired me to play guitar. I do it now as a hobby. Why ins't Frank publicized in guitar magazines?

Hi Frank, I'm a huge fan of your marvellous music since 1980 and I saw you perform in Amsterdam once (in '85 I think) and that concert was the best one I ever saw (together with one of Dream Theater last year if I'm honest). But far more better than those of modern entertainers Vai, Satriani, Howe and others.. Hope you will release your album soon and that you will come over to Europe again. Wherever you go over here I will go too!! Come on Frank, let everyone enjoy the music you play or record with your friends.. And you still must have that magic somewhere to play and to fascinate all of us...!! And one hint for all those guys waiting for Power of Rock'n Roll and Juggernaut to be released on CD: buy a CD writer, plug your (vinyl) record player to your PC and tape it onto hard disk. Then retouch some of the scratches and burn it onto CD. It's legitimate as long as you use it for your own purposes !

Juggernaut is easily my favorite album of all time. It's a damn shame that I can't purchase it on compact disc..... *sigh* Now if I can only find the LP somewhere......

In the late 70's, had heard of Mahogany Rush, but the term "Mahogany" did not set off any fireworks, so I almost missed 'em. They opened for Aerosmith, or someone. I can't remember because he blew the main act away. I couldn't even concentrate on the main act because of what I had just seen. I was a guitarist also, and his ability put me in awe. Since then, I've heard all of his albums, but I have a special affinity for "Live". It's one thing to get a bunch of "chances" in the studio, but to burn away flawlessly live, is a whole differen thing. I have lost touch with concert going over the years, but about a week ago I saw Jimmy Page on stage playing like he still had something left to prove, and it re-ignited my interest in live performances. Does anyone have any tour info on Frank? Thanks. Later. Barry.

Like many others, I too was deeply saddened by Hendrix' death. Frank Marino and Robin Trower helped fill the space left in my soul. I'll never forget the first time I heard "Child of the Novelty". To this day, I'm still blown away by Franks' guitar work. Play on brother!

I've seen Frank play live only twice (opening for Blue Oyster Cult in '77 in Flint, MI, then in Grand Rapids, MI in '91) but on the second occasion I got to do the stage announcements before he came out (I work at a radio station). I didn't actually get to meet him, but I did get to watch him during the soundcheck and met his wife (I think it was his wife) who took my "Strange Universe" cd (German import bootleg) backstage and had him sign it.(thanks Frank!) I grew up in the '70's and always had my Mahogany Rush 8-tracks cranked up through my Pioneer car stereo to blow away my idiot friends who idolized that nugent guy. Did anyone else ever read the shit nugent said about Frank in the booklet that comes in nug's "out of control" boxset? What an asshole! I still like Trower and Rory (how did he die?) but nothing compares to Frank blasting out through my headphones (so I can get the whole stereo effect). THANKS FRANK!

The first time I heard Frank Marino was when a buddy of mine was home on leave from the Navy and he brought a borrowed cassette from a fellow sailor and brought it home. We were raising hell and cruising to this awesome music, which turned out to be Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. I was hooked, but I was even more glad when my buddy left the tape in my car. I wore that tape out and have owned three of the same since. I was always a Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn fan, and I grew up listening to my father's Chuck Berry 45's. That's why I like Marino so much because he played that same type of music.

Great page, bud! Glad I found it and good to know that I'm not the only one to have "Strange Dreams" about Mahogany Rush! I was just 18/19 when I read this article (Creem? Crawdaddy? Rolling Stone?) about a (supposedly) amazing guitarist who sounded a lot like Jimi...Well, I was visiting Winnipeg one day, saw "Maxoom" and "Child of the Novelty" and scarfed 'em both up. KILLER!!!!!!!!!! And I've been hooked ever since. I have almost everything FM&MR have released, either on vinyl or CD, but would sure be happy if some record company would print the entire catalog on CD, especially "Juggernaut." Sad to say, I've never seen FM&MR live but would love to get a video of performances from his "Child..." and "Strange..." days. Thanks for all the time and research you've put into your fantastic website! I've enjoyed reading it and will re-visit often to get the latest dope on new/re-issue FM&MR music. I was damn excited to see (and buy) the Razor and Tie CD of their "greatest hits," because in today'

Seen you in the LA area venues many times and always love it. Last time at the Coachhouse in San Juan Capistano was the best live performance I've ever seen. I have been checking the music listings for your next tour ever since and that was much too long ago. Come on back. Your fans are waiting.

I saw Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush with my wife who was 5mos pregnant at the time.June 13,1977 Buffalo,NY at the old Century Theater. Al DiMeola opened up. There was a delay in Mahogany Rush going on stage because of of a fuck-up with WGRQ's alleged simulcast on the radio. There was about a two hour delay,so most of the people left. But those few hundred of us that stuck around for Frank were treated to the most spectacular gguitarwork that I have ever witnessed. When he started in on his Hendrix set,it was time to make our way to the front. We were on the left side of the stage and we climbed up on stage with Frank and Mahogany Rush, off to the left, right in front of the P.A. system the security was cool about it and let us stay there(with my wife being pregnant,we didn't get a hard time at concerts). When Jimi died, there was a void...that void was filled by Frank Marino,Robin Trower, and Stevie Ray Vaughan...Frank,come back to the forefront where you belong with the greatest of all time? Your music really means a lot to me!You gave me memories that I will NEVER forget! One of the highlights of my life was actually being on the same stage as you while you were performing! I LOVE YOU,MAN! Your ever faithful fan, Kevin Snyder

I haven't listened to Mahogany Rush in many a year. But for some reason I have had a super desire to listen to Strange Universe. My old LP had so much wear on it that it had to be retired to file 13 a few years back. Frank, thank you for your inspiration and talent. Rick
